K-pop just shattered another ceiling — and EJAE was holding the ball.

After a historic awards season, K-Pop Demon Hunters star EJAE is officially in her golden era. Her breakout track “Golden” went multiplatinum and made history as the first K-pop song ever to win an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy — all in the same season.

Two days after the 2026 Academy Awards, the 34-year-old Korean American singer-songwriter (born Kim Eun-jae) finally had a quiet moment to process it all.

“I finally let out a cry,” she shared. “That was the first time I really soaked it in. The first thing I said out loud was ‘thank you.’”

And honestly? After a journey like hers — that moment was earned.

From Almost Giving Up to Making History

Before becoming one of the most talked-about artists in global music, EJAE spent nearly 12 years training under SM Entertainment to become a K-pop idol. In 2015, she was dropped.

For many trainees, that’s the end of the story.

For EJAE, it was the plot twist.

“I wanted to give up,” she admits. “But my mom always told me, ‘Stop saying you can’t do it. Always say you can.’”

Instead of chasing the traditional idol path, EJAE pivoted into songwriting and producing in the underground scenes of Los Angeles and New York — a move that ultimately shaped the sound that would define “Golden.”

Sometimes rejection isn’t the end. Sometimes it’s redirection.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

“There’s a glass ceiling in America,” EJAE says. “And K-pop just kept throwing a ball at it. It kept cracking and cracking. Finally it broke.”

Her success isn’t just personal — it represents something bigger. With “Golden” dominating charts and awards circuits, K-pop’s global influence continues to expand beyond fandom culture into mainstream Western recognition.

And this is only the beginning.

EJAE is set to return for the K-Pop Demon Hunters sequel and is currently working on her first full solo album. When asked about potential collaborations, she smiled and hinted: “A good amount of people.”

We’re watching.

Redefining Beauty & Confidence

Having trained in the K-pop system for over a decade, EJAE knows firsthand the pressures of appearance standards.

“I was obsessed with makeup growing up,” she says. “I wanted to hide behind it.”

Today, her perspective has shifted.

“I feel the most beautiful after I take a shower and put my skincare on.”

Confidence. Growth. Self-acceptance. That’s the glow-up.
