Take the Charge of My Heart brings a quintessential aspect of a weird love drama where two hearts somehow click through electricity. It offers an absurd yet intriguing take on romance, bringing together an ordinary girl who's perpetually unlucky in love and a man whose fragile heart makes their unusual connection even more complicated. Starring Kim Young Kwang from Trigger as the most good-looking character, Baek Ho Rang, who seems like a perfectionist and a conglomerate with a heart of gold. On the other hand, his love interest, Na Bo Bae, is played by the actress from When the Phone Rings, who has nothing to give in love, because when she does, despite falling, is creating a electrifying environment that puts the situation into a fearsome X-Men movie! For her, falling in love is nothing but a lightning storm that can electrocute anyone.
Despite being born and having quite a colorful life with her screenplay writing, she lacks the essence to write romantic, emotionally compelling scenes for her next project. Having a dreamland with a momentary love drama happening, she really needs to find some inspiration to make it happen: to write a love romance for her new project, or else she might lose her job.
The series has a peculiar tone and narrative of an electrifying love where one needs to ignite the love; one needs to charge a mechanical heart to make it feel love. So is this story worth watching despite its weirdly enticing storyline? Well, let's find out!
Bo-Bae and Ho Rang’s Love Story Feels Predictable, Yet Electric Touch Offers a New Way to Fall in Love: Miss or Hit?
So to begin with, Take The Charge of My Heart keeps a very unwired tone of a chaebol Baek, a person who works by the rules. His work glorifies perfection, and he is quite a ruthless boss, but in reality he is a cutesy bear who stresses over trivial things, making his heart work so much that it becomes dangerous for him. Handling an empire worth a billion, he has a weak heart that needs replacement every few years.
On the other hand, Bo Bae is a hopeless romantic girl who has been living in the shadows for years despite her brilliant mind. Being a screenplay writer, she needs a deep motivation to make her upcoming project become a breakthrough. Having lost quite a few relationships due to her supernatural power given by a lightning storm, she needs to keep her distance from people to keep them safe.
An unforeseen event leaves the two in an awkward position, yet something sparks between them. At first, a misunderstanding takes a huge toll on Bo Bae and Baek, later revealing a shocking situation and working through uncertain circumstances. Back when Bo Bae was little, being struck by lightning; her body was a walking electric conductor, and Baek had a heart that needed to be recharged every few hours, which made them live almost together to make things work.
At first, their constant meetings make it slightly dramatic, but later both start to soften their hearts and understand the real meaning of love. What makes their story even more interesting is the fact that they unwillingly wanted to be around each other but later started to feel a void when they didn't see each other.
As the series progresses, they find each other’s flaws alluring. At each turning point, they become best companions, later falling in love. Towards the end, it seemed like they might be working through each other to cope with their needs as much as they can, but Cupid tricked them in the most unconventional way.
This is quite a unique story, as per viewers. Fans are enjoying every bit of the episodes where Baek and Bo-Bae are entangled in their own mess and trying to rise above all this. A cute yet pretty plot makes the series quite worth watching. All the elements in the series bring a refreshing wave of storytelling, yet it keeps fans expecting something unexpected. So the verdict is it's worth watching. Take the Charge of My Heart is available on Netflix.
