While some fans acknowledged the direct apology regarding the name mispronunciation, many in the ARMY felt the statement fell short because it generalized the misconduct and did not fully address the insults directed at the broader fandom.

However, many ARMY took the insult as an opportunity to prove that the fandom is diverse in age, talent, and ethnicity by posting videos and photographs of themselves and their many accomplishments, using the now viral intro “This loser…” to open the videos. Many ARMY members describe being first generation college graduates, award winning journalists, medical doctors, and more.

Name calling is nothing new for ARMY, and I doubt this instance will be the last. But luckily, nothing stops this fandom from being genuinely good humans.
