Romance fans have a new series to look forward to each week following the April 10th premier of Perfect Crown, a new romantic comedy drama starring singer-songwriter and actress IU and actor Byeon Woo-Seok! The series is set in an alternate version of 21st-century South Korea, which remains ruled by a modern monarchy. It follows chaebol heiress Sung Hui-ju (IU) as she attempts to enter a fake engagement with Crown Prince I-AN (Byeon Woo-seok) to subvert her family’s plans for her future and generate public approval. However, it seems that it won’t be long before the characters’ media ruse turns into real romance…
The drama’s leading lovers sparked massive social media excitement leading up to the show’s release. IU is a long-time darling of the Korean music scene–often lauded as the most popular female soloist in the country–in addition to a talented actress, known for her roles in popular K-dramas such as My Mister (2018) and When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025). Her co-star, Byeon Woo-Seok, began his acting journey around 2016 with supporting roles in dramas such as Dear My Friends, but it was his 2024 role as Ryu Sun-jae in Lovely Runner that launched him into mega stardom, his popularity even earning him the title of the “nation’s boyfriend” in South Korea!
The first two episodes of Perfect Crown, which aired consecutively on April 10th and 11th, introduced viewers to the turbulent world of Sung Hui-ju and Prince I-AN, setting up the season for their relationship to unfold and even teasing a bit of political intrigue for more drama-inclined fans. It promises a sweeping love story with plenty of humor, a captivating plot, and masterful acting performances from the entire cast. The series will consist of 12 episodes, which viewers can watch on Disney+ as they release on Fridays and Saturdays through May 16th.
