Today, the pair unveiled the new sub-unit, CxM – made up of their initials. The duo are due to drop their debut mini-album, ‘Hype
Vibes’, on September 29 – pre-orders are now live, you can place yours here.
While no concrete details have been revealed about the album – such as how many tracks it will contain, or the name of the songs –
the pair have released a trailer for the upcoming project. The trailer is set in Los Angeles and sees S.Coups and Mingyu as they
prepare for a day out. They make their separate ways down to a beach, where they party with a number of strangers, dancing and
drinking along the way.
Watch the trailer for CxM’s ‘Hype Vibes’ below.
This marks the second SEVENTEEN
sub-unit that either are members of. S.Coups is part of the SVT Leaders sub-unit alongside
Hoshi and Woozi, while Mingyu is in a separate sub-unit with Wonwoo.
It is currently unclear if CxM are planning for other activities after the album’s launch, as Mingyu will have to enlist for his
mandatory military service at some point – a firm enlistment date has yet to be announced. S.Coups is exempt from serving in the
military due to a prior ACL injury.
Fellow SEVENTEEN
members Hoshi and Woozi are enlisting for their mandatory military service this month. As for the larger
SEVENTEEN
group, they’ll be touring the US in October – find the full list of dates and details here.
The group have also recently confirmed that individual members will remain active through solo material, and that the entire group
will reconvene once everyone’s done with their two-year service.
As for the four members who won’t be serving – The8 and Jun are Chinese citizens and Joshua’s a US citizen – they plan to “stick
together and make something great to showcase to the fans.” “It can also be a great time for members who have been mentally or
physically exhausted to recharge themselves,” they added.
In a three-star review of SEVENTEEN
’s latest album ‘Happy Burstday’, Gladys Yeo wrote for NME: “‘Happy Burstday’ might not be
SEVENTEEN
’s most cohesive release, but it succeeds at showcasing the group’s transformation over the last 10 years. The record’s
focus on solo songs exposes each member’s strengths and weaknesses when they stand alone, but its group tracks are a self-assured
testament to their chemistry and magnetism as a whole.”
