For many idols in the K-Pop industry, there are two kinds of success; musical, of course, and personal. So many idols have made the news by embarking on endeavors outside of their music careers and making names for themselves in other industries, such as fashion, acting, brand ambassadorships, and even authoring books.

launched a massive, blockbuster exhibit with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art titled “RM X SFMOMA: Between You and Me”. Rather than a commercial brand ambassadorship, this is a deep creative collaboration where RM served as a co-curator alongside SFMOMA project leads. The show features 142 works from RM's private collection placed in dialogue with 36 pieces selected from SFMOMA's permanent collection. It provides one of the most expansive presentations of Korean modern and contemporary art ever seen in the United States, including masters like Yun Hyong-keun, Chang Ucchin, and Park Rehyun. These are paired with Western masterpieces from artists like Mark Rothko and Donald Judd. To make it feel intimate, the galleries feature handwritten wall texts by RM, alongside an audio guide and a custom music playlist he curated to accompany the viewing experience. The show has been an absolute cultural phenomenon, with ticket pre-sales tracking six times higher than any previous exhibition in the museum's history. The most recent reports the exhibit sold approximately 66,000 tickets, breaking the museum’s all-time presale record, and rivaling many K-Pop concert ticket sales. The exhibit’s accompanying merchandise also sold out within three hours of launching, with visitors traveling from around the world to view the collection.
It is fascinating to see K-pop idols turn their fame into something beyond music, building careers and creative identities that extend far beyond the stage. Whether they are exploring new artistic mediums, establishing their own businesses, or sharing their passions with the world, these ventures demonstrate that an idol’s talents are not limited to performance. As the industry continues to evolve, more artists are finding opportunities to shape their own legacies, on their own terms. Their music may introduce them to the world, but what they choose to do with their influence can be just as meaningful.
