But for Kevin Moon, 28-year-old main vocalist of THE BOYZ, it seems that this bumpy road has served as heard-earned inspiration for a new, defining chapter in his musical career.
On September 2nd, 2026, Kevin released FREECHILD, his debut solo EP, independently and without the backing of his label. The album consists of four tracks: title track "FREECHILD", "Manifesto", and two versions of the final song, "Focus On Me." Thematically, the album speaks to creative freedom and rebellion through lyrics centered around empowerment and self-expression. With just three songs, Kevin shows his diversity as a solo artist, beginning with the upbeat call to action of "FREECHILD" and ending with the softer and more introspective tone of "Focus On Me." In a post on X, Kevin states, "It's always troubled me to have the most dedicated fans in the world but having been restricted to shoving regurgitated trends down your throats. I'm glad to have made memories [for you] but it never sat right with me that [you] were simply part of a business model." In a separate post, he goes on to write ahead of the FREECHILD release, "My release is going to be different for sure. I did it not for the sake of being different but doing what suited my message best. It's going to push some buttons but I believe that artists should be the last people on earth to walk on eggshells."
