For those that missed the first season, 'The Wonder Coach' is a show by MBC that follows legendary volleyball player Kim Yeon-koung after her retirement from being a professional player.
The main goal of the series is to address the problem that many volleyball players in South Korea face. Many cannot play professionally despite having the skills to do so, due to a limited number of teams for them to play in. The South Korean V-League only has 1 division and only 7 teams, so those that are skilled but don't make the cut for these teams have to give up on playing professionally.
While Kim Yeon-koung can't just magically create a second division by herself, her job in the show is to act as a coach for retired players and those that play for corporate teams to give them a new chance to play professionally. This eventually acts towards the goal of creating the eighth team in the V-League, 'Wonder Dogs'. Her work on the show were undeniably successful securing successful contacts for 4 of the players recruited in the first season.
Many thought that he wouldn't be able to commit to the team due to his upcoming military enlistment on October 26, 2026, but SEUNGKWAN defies everyone's expectations and takes on more responsibilities than ever. He even surprised himself. When called in for a meeting with the crew managing the show, he thought he would be fired from his position as manager, instead his position within the team has increased from one title to five. SEUNGKWAN is now the PR Team Leader, Brand Strategy Leader, YouTube Leader and the Manager at the same time.
Perhaps his promotion shouldn't come as a surprise. CARATs (fans of SEVENTEEN) will know that SEUNGKWAN's volleyball obsession runs deep. His love for the sport is not only recognised by Kim Yeon-koung herself, but also the general public. Some might remember SEUNGKWAN winning the 2025 Hot Issue Award for his work on 'The Wonder Coach' at the MBC Entertainment Awards. Those that don't might instead remember the rather humorous moment of SEUNGKWAN's name being mispronounced during the award presentation.
To see more of SEUNGKWAN's continued passion towards volleyball, make sure to watch the second season of 'The Wonder Coach'! The show is available with English subtitles on KOCOWA+ and Amazon Prime Video.
